Robin
Bach; Certified Nia Black Belt and Holistic Personal Trainer.
My work with the Nia Technique has taught me how to live fully; I
want to share this JOY with you through Nia
Classes, Personal Training,
Presentations and Workshops.
This
work has brought me into a relationship with my authentic self by
paying attention to my physical sensations…by being in the body.
Why
be in the Body?
#1
reason…the body is an awesome ‘feet’ of engineering
Go ahead and take
off your shoes,
yeah: I know you are at work, but covertly slip those puppies off...slowly,
so you can really sense what is happening…I’ll wait. Now,
rub your feet together, as if they were
your hands. How do your feet feel? Be
descriptive. There are over 7000 nerve endings, 26 bones and 33 working
muscles in each foot. Having that many nerve endings means the foot
is designed to receive tons of information; information about balance,
the environment, general health and wellbeing. The foot being designed
with a combination of 26 long, short and irregular shaped bones
means
that these feet of yours can articulate almost as freely as your hands.
#2
reason….The body can show us how we’re doing
We’ll just stay with your feet a minute. This is going to
sound kind of ‘woowoo’ but just ask your feet how they
feel. Go ahead and move them around on the floor, sense the pressure
on different parts of the sole. If you can get away with it, start
walking barefoot around your desk, pay attention to sensation in
the feet. Do your feet feel confident when they walk? Timid? Fearless?
Are they not saying anything to you? With
practice, you will be able to hear the ‘voices’ of the
feet and have quite an interesting relationship with them.
After all they are your foundation. Feet are the part that bring
mobility and stability to your vertical life. Every time you stand,
you’re on them, they are under you giving your support, so
listening to them and how they
feel is a very loving thing to do for yourself
#3
reason… the body shows us where we are
Go back to your chair and pay attention to the sensations happening
in your entire body...have some fun with it…can you feel your
eyelids? Sure you can, you just didn’t know you could…you
can feel everything in the body with practice, even your organs
(My gallbladder and I are quite chatty) Now as you are paying attention
to your body, what are you thinking? Are you in the future thinking
about shopping lists, deadlines, your to-do list? Are you in the
past thinking or being emotional about that comment someone made,
missed opportunities? No you are not; you are in the NOW, the
present moment, listening to the wisdom of the body. This
is the place-NOW- where truly fascinating
things happen.
Why
be in the NOW?
The present is the only place where we can
integrate our body/mind/emotions and spirit. When we are
fully integrated we are fully alive.
We can live in the past in our minds and emotional realm, we can
live in the future in our minds, the only place we can live in our
bodies is in the present.
My Mission Statement: What am I here to give?-what
am I here to learn?
My purpose is helping others see the spiritual through the physical
and learning about myself through personal relationships.
